The threat actor known by the aliases netsaosa and g0retrance has been observed operating from Russia, according to available location information. The actor uses the screen names netsaosa and g0retrance interchangeably in online activities. These aliases appeared in connection with a website defacement incident in November 2021. Apart from the aliases, no additional personal identifiers have been disclosed in open sources.

The only publicly reported target of this actor is the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association website, which is based in the United States. The compromise occurred on 2021-11-01 and involved the defacement of the site’s homepage. The actor left the word 'pwned' prominently displayed and redirected visitors to a Twitter account associated with the g0retrance handle. In a message accompanying the defacement, the actor stated that the action was intended to draw attention to perceived security flaws after earlier communications were allegedly ignored.

The observed tactics consisted of gaining unauthorized access to the web server and modifying the site’s content to display the defacement message. No specific malware families, exploit kits, or tooling were referenced in the reporting of this incident. The actor’s method included a redirect to a Twitter account, indicating use of social media as a channel for signaling the compromise.
