Description
On Monday morning at 9:55 a.m., the city’s IT department was notified that dallascityhall.com, dallas.gov and dallaspolice.net were offline. Automated security controls had taken the sites offline after detecting an external threat originating outside the city’s network. City spokesman Rick Ericson stated that the threat did not result in a network intrusion or any loss of city data. The outage persisted throughout Monday as the automated controls kept the websites unavailable. At 1:11 a.m. on Tuesday, an internal notice to city employees announced that service had been restored. Ericson reiterated that the incident caused no intrusion or data compromise. The city’s digital security systems were credited with triggering the protective shutdown.
During the outage, emergency services such as 911 and 311 phone and virtual services remained operational and were not affected by the website shutdown. Separate platforms including DallasGo, the city’s online bill‑payment system, and DallasNow, the online permitting portal, continued to be accessible to users. The city’s website normally provides information about departments, elected officials, online services and other public resources, while dallaspolice.net serves as the Dallas Police Department’s site and dallas.gov redirects to dallascityhall.com. No disruption was reported to payment processing or permitting functions despite the main sites being down. The response relied on the automated detection and containment mechanisms that isolated the threat without requiring manual intervention. Officials confirmed that normal website operations resumed after the internal notice was issued early Tuesday.
