Description

On March 29, 2014, the official website of the Israeli Agricultural Research Organization, operated by the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, was compromised by the pro-Palestinian hacktivist group AnonGhost. The attackers replaced the website’s content with a defacement page containing a message directed at Israel, referencing their prior "Operation 7 April" and vowing continued retaliation. The message declared support for Palestine, warned of impending attacks, and included religious and political rhetoric such as "Alkhilafah is coming soon Insha’Allah." AnonGhost publicly claimed responsibility for the breach and provided a mirror link to the defaced site. The group framed the attack as a precursor to larger operations, with a member explicitly stating it was "just a warm-up hack" ahead of planned coordinated cyberattacks against Israeli infrastructure on April 7, 2014, coinciding with Israel’s Independence Day celebrations.

Cyber Incident Image

The defacement disrupted public access to the Agricultural Research Organization’s website but caused no reported data theft or secondary compromises beyond the temporary loss of site functionality. Israeli authorities or web administrators restored the website to operational status by March 30, 2014, the date the incident was publicly reported. AnonGhost’s message emphasized ideological motivations, positioning the group as a "voice of Palestine" and threatening further intrusions. No additional technical details regarding the attack vector, duration of downtime, or broader organizational impacts were disclosed in available reporting. The incident highlighted ongoing cyber tensions between hacktivist groups and Israeli entities during this period.
