Description
On May 10, 2022, a major cyber attack was reported targeting the websites of the Government of Pakistan. The incident was confirmed by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. Officials stated that no data theft occurred as a result of the attack. The attack took place in Islamabad, where the government’s online services are hosted.

A spokesperson for the ministry quoted Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Aminul Haque, saying the cyber‑attack attempt on the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) system of the IT Ministry was foiled. Haque noted that various departmental websites are hosted on NTC servers. He specified that the attack occurred on a Tuesday morning at 11:30 a.m. local time. The minister emphasized that the attack failed due to a comprehensive cyber security system.
As a result, the websites of some government departments were automatically suspended. The ministry confirmed that no data theft was reported following the incident. The ministry also stated that the attack attempt had been foiled. The ministry’s spokesperson reiterated that the attack did not result in any data theft.
