Description
Wildwood Surgical Center learned of a data breach on or about June 26, 2025 after its security team discovered suspicious activity on the facility's network. An internal investigation was launched promptly to determine the nature and scope of the activity. The investigation revealed that between June 24, 2025 and June 26, 2025 an unauthorized third party had gained access to the network and may have acquired personal data stored on the systems. The unauthorized access was confined to that three‑day window, after which the activity ceased. Upon confirming the breach, the center began preparing notifications for individuals whose information might have been affected. Notification letters were mailed to affected individuals around July 13, 2026. The letters informed recipients of details regarding the incident and the types of data that may have been compromised.
The exposed information included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, passport numbers, diagnostic and treatment information, medical billing information such as bank account or debit/credit card numbers, and health insurance information. Individuals who received the notification were considered to be at increased risk of identity theft and fraud. In response to the breach, the national class action law firm Edelson Lechtzin LLP announced an investigation into potential data privacy claims arising from the incident. The firm offered free case evaluations to those impacted and indicated it would evaluate rights and potential claims at no cost. Wildwood Surgical Center is an outpatient surgery facility located in Toledo, Ohio, owned collaboratively by The Toledo Hospital and a group of local board‑certified surgeons. Edelson Lechtzin LLP is a national class action law firm with offices in Pennsylvania and California that handles data breach litigation among other practice areas.
