Description

OnMarch 11, 2025, at 3:00 PM the Yap Department of Health Services IT unit detected a ransomware cyberattack on its network. In response, the department took the entire network offline to prevent further damage. As a result, internet connectivity was lost and all computers were powered off. Email communication through the health servers and all digital health systems were shut down. The immediate impact was a loss of normal digital operations across the department. The department stated that the network shutdown was undertaken to contain the intrusion.

The Yap Department of Health Services is collaborating with the FSM Department of Health and Social Affairs and private IT contractors to assess the extent of the infiltration and to determine what data has been breached.
