Description

On Monday, Ahold Delhaize experienced a network security issue that prompted the company to take certain systems offline to help protect them. As a result, the websites and mobile applications for Stop & Shop and Hannaford went offline and displayed maintenance messages indicating that service was being restored as quickly as possible. Ahold Delhaize stated that its teams were actively assessing and mitigating the issue while a spokesperson confirmed that other store operations, such as refrigeration and point‑of‑sale systems, remained unaffected. The company apologized for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience.

Giant Food, also under Ahold Delhaize, reported similar impacts and advised customers to place delivery orders through third‑party platforms including Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats. Physical stores, pharmacies and fuel stations continued to operate during normal business hours throughout the outage. Any orders that had been placed through the affected websites or apps but could not be fulfilled during the disruption were promised to be refunded. At the time of the report, there was no clear estimate for when the apps and websites would be fully restored.

Ahold Delhaize is headquartered in the Netherlands and oversees seventeen local brands across nine countries, with five of those brands operating in the United States: Stop & Shop, Hannaford, Giant Food, The GIANT Company and Food Lion. The company’s statement emphasized that the precautionary shutdown of specific systems was intended to safeguard its networks while the incident response proceeded. No further technical details about the nature of the security issue were disclosed in the available source.
