Description
On Sunday, July 13, 2026, a cyberattack was carried out against the logistics provider that supports KFC's transportation and distribution network in Japan. The attack involved unauthorized access by a third party to the infrastructure of that logistics company. The disruption appears to have been confined to KFC's Japanese subsidiary. Supply chain disturbances began the following day, Monday, July 14, after the attack was discovered.

As a result of the disrupted logistics, many KFC restaurants in Japan were forced to reduce their menus, shorten opening hours, or temporarily close entirely. KFC Japan also suspended online orders placed through its website and mobile app, and halted home delivery and click‑and‑collect services while restoration efforts proceeded. The firm stated that, to date, no evidence of a customer data breach has been found, and it has not disclosed whether any data was compromised during the incident. The impact has been described as limited to distribution operations and restaurant services, with no public figure on the number of affected customers.
KFC Japan issued an apology to customers for the inconvenience and said it is working closely with the affected logistics provider and other involved parties to restore normal operations as quickly as possible. The company noted that it continues to investigate the incident and has not identified any known cybercriminal or ransomware group that has claimed responsibility for the attack. Restoration of the affected systems is ongoing, and KFC Japan pledged to provide further updates as the situation develops.
