Description

On October 22, 2024, unidentified hackers launched distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against multiple Czech judicial and governmental institutions, including the Prison Service, courts, the Ministry of Justice, and the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The attackers overwhelmed targets with excessive artificial traffic to disrupt online services. The justice sector experienced severe operational impacts during morning hours, with critical systems like the Infojednání and Infosoud judicial databases becoming inaccessible alongside individual court websites. Ministry of Justice spokesperson Vladimír Řepka confirmed the cyberattack remained active as of approximately 3:00 PM local time, though partial service restoration was underway. Technical teams implemented recovery measures while acknowledging potential residual complications for users.

The Senate of Parliament's website was separately compromised during the same attack wave, prompting immediate activation of security protocols by Senate administration staff. Senate press officer Lada Faldynová reported successful restoration of web services by midday following coordinated response efforts with the National Office for Cyber and Information Security (NÚKIB). No data breaches or permanent system damage were disclosed. NÚKIB had previously identified DDoS campaigns as prevalent threats amid heightened cyber activity linked to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, though attribution for this specific incident remained unconfirmed. Service disruptions were confined to website availability without reported impacts on internal legislative operations or data integrity. Restoration work continued throughout the afternoon as monitoring for persistent threats persisted.
