Profile

Antrix Corporation, also known simply as Antrix, is the commercial and marketing arm of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It is responsible for promoting and selling ISRO’s space‑based products and services to domestic and international customers. Its portfolio includes launch vehicle services for placing satellites into various orbits, provision of satellite transponders for communication and broadcasting, supply of remote‑sensing data from Indian Earth‑observation satellites, and mission support services such as satellite tracking and control. Antrix also markets space‑related hardware, software, and ground‑segment solutions derived from ISRO’s research and development programmes. The organisation serves a diverse range of clients, including government agencies, private satellite operators, broadcasters, and scientific institutions across multiple continents.

As the commercial arm of ISRO, Antrix operates under the administrative control of the Department of Space, Government of India, and functions as a public sector undertaking. It translates the technological capabilities developed by ISRO into marketable offerings, thereby enabling the Indian space programme to generate revenue and expand its global footprint. Antrix’s distinguishing attribute lies in its end‑to‑end integration of launch services, satellite‑based data, and ground‑segment support, which allows customers to procure a complete space solution from a single Indian source. The organisation has facilitated numerous international launch contracts, placing payloads for customers from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas aboard ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) families. Its role as a trusted intermediary has contributed to India’s reputation as a reliable and cost‑effective provider of access to space.

The organisation’s structural relationship is explicit: Antrix is a wholly owned subsidiary of ISRO, with the Indian government as the ultimate owner through the Department of Space. This ownership model ensures that Antrix’s activities align with national space policy while maintaining commercial flexibility. In July 2015, Antrix experienced a website defacement incident in which hackers replaced its homepage with unrelated content about discounted sports merchandise. Officials acknowledged the defacement, denied any broader security compromise, and initiated an inquiry to identify the responsible parties. The incident remained visible for over ten minutes before restoration, with other website pages unaffected.
