The organization’s core activities involve delivering health services to its clientele. In June 2020, Lorien fell victim to a ransomware attack carried out by the Netwalker cybercriminal group. This attack resulted in the encryption of the organization’s systems and the exfiltration of sensitive data. Lorien chose not to comply with the ransom demand made by the attackers. Consequently, the attackers released portions of the stolen information online, labeling the release as “Part 1.” The compromised data included residents’ personal and health details as well as employee records, affecting nearly 48,000 individuals.

Following the breach, Lorien engaged external cybersecurity experts to assist with investigation and remediation efforts. The organization promptly notified all individuals whose information had been exposed. To mitigate potential harm, Lorien offered credit monitoring services to the affected parties. Throughout the incident response, the organization cooperated with law enforcement agencies. The breach was publicly reported by BleepingComputer on the date of the attack. These actions reflect the organization’s response to a significant cybersecurity event.
