In addition, Intesa Sanpaolo operates wealth management and insurance divisions that cater to high‑net‑worth individuals and provide pension and protection solutions. While its primary market is Italy, the bank maintains a network of branches, representative offices and subsidiaries across Europe, North America and Asia to serve international clients.

The organisation is regarded as one of the largest banking groups in Italy, holding a significant share of the domestic loan and deposit markets. It is classified as a significant institution under the European Banking Union and is therefore directly supervised by the European Central Bank. Intesa Sanpaolo has pursued a strategy of digital transformation, investing in online banking platforms, mobile applications and fintech partnerships to improve customer experience. The February 2025 cyber incident, in which the pro‑Russian hacking group Noname057(16) allegedly targeted the bank’s website among other Italian entities, highlighted its exposure to cyber‑threats linked to geopolitical tensions.
