In December 2023 the firm disclosed a breach affecting billions of records, including approximately 272 million unique Social Security numbers and 137 million email addresses, with the compromised data primarily linked to older individuals. The stolen data was later sold and publicly released by cybercriminals on underground forums. The breach exposed records spanning decades and highlighted risks of identity theft and fraud for affected individuals across multiple countries. Following the incident National Public Data acknowledged involvement of a third‑party actor. The company cooperated with law‑enforcement agencies and implemented additional security measures. A class‑action lawsuit was filed in response to the breach, alleging inadequate protection of consumer information.
