Prior to the July 2023 incident, the Ost Cola party event maintained a Facebook page that had accumulated approximately 13,000 followers, indicating a notable online reach within its target audience. The page served as a key channel for promoting events, sharing updates, and engaging with the community in the Brandenburg region. The organisation’s activities are concentrated in the German state of Brandenburg, where its signature Ost Cola party events are held. This regional focus has allowed it to build a recognizable local presence among party‑goers.

On 4 July 2023, hackers compromised and deleted the Ost Cola party’s Facebook page, simultaneously demanding a ransom from the event organisers. The attack resulted in the loss of the page’s follower base and disrupted the organisation’s established online outreach. Organisers reported feeling devastated by the loss of both the follower count and the event’s promotional platform. The incident highlighted the organisation’s reliance on social media for audience engagement and underscored a vulnerability to cyber extortion tactics.
