On 1 October 2022, Redtone Digital experienced a cyberattack carried out by the threat group known as DESORDEN. The group publicly claimed responsibility for breaching the company's network. According to DESORDEN, the attack was motivated by alleged media suppression of a previous breach affecting another telecommunications firm. The attackers demanded that victims disclose the incident publicly and warned of further actions against a third telecom provider if Malaysian journalists continued to withhold coverage. During the intrusion, DESORDEN exfiltrated data from Redtone Digital's systems. The group shared samples of the stolen information but did not reveal the total volume extracted. It also did not specify whether the data would be sold, leaked, or otherwise used. DESORDEN criticised local media and authorities for failing to report earlier breaches, arguing that affected customers and employees remained unaware of compromises. Following the incident, Redtone Digital issued no public statements or acknowledgments regarding the attack. The lack of an official response left the breach unverified by the company itself. The incident was reported in open sources detailing the attackers' actions and demands. Redtone Digital continues to operate as a telecommunications provider despite the incident.
