Embassy of Armenia in Switzerland

The Embassy of Armenia in Switzerland serves as the official diplomatic mission of the Republic of Armenia to the Swiss Confederation. It conducts political dialogue, negotiates agreements, and promotes cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, education, and culture between the two countries. The embassy also provides consular services to Armenian nationals residing or traveling in Switzerland, including passport renewal, visa issuance, and assistance in emergencies. Additionally, it engages with international organisations headquartered in Geneva, representing Armenia’s interests in forums such as the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Office at Geneva.

A distinguishing attribute of the embassy is its role in public diplomacy and outreach, organising events that showcase Armenian heritage, art, and business opportunities to Swiss audiences. The mission maintains a website and social media channels to communicate policy positions and consular information to the public. In January 2016, the embassy’s online presence was targeted in a cyber defacement campaign by Azerbaijani hackers, which altered content on over forty Armenian diplomatic sites to display propaganda asserting Azerbaijan’s military strength. This incident highlighted the embassy’s exposure to cyber threats linked to the broader Nagorno‑Karabakh conflict.

Structurally, the embassy operates as part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and reports directly to the Armenian government’s foreign policy apparatus. It is headed by an ambassador appointed by the President of Armenia, who presents credentials to the Swiss Federal Council. The mission’s staff includes diplomatic officers, consular personnel, and locally hired support staff who implement the embassy’s mandate under the direction of the ambassador. As a sovereign representative, the embassy enjoys the privileges and immunities afforded to diplomatic missions under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
