On 27 April 2023, Elysée Cosmétiques was targeted by a significant ransomware attack that encrypted its central servers. The intrusion was attributed to actors linked to Russian hacking groups, according to the company’s statement. As a result of the encryption, the organisation was forced to suspend all production activities across its facilities. The attack disrupted internal IT systems, preventing access to critical operational data and applications. The incident prompted an immediate response from the firm’s internal IT team and external cybersecurity specialists.

The ransomware incident caused substantial financial harm, with losses estimated at hundreds of thousands of euros per day of downtime. Approximately three hundred employees were placed on partial unemployment while restoration efforts were underway. The company filed a formal complaint with the Paris Prosecutor’s Office and a dedicated cybercrime unit to pursue legal action against the perpetrators. Restoration work involved rebuilding servers, restoring backups, and strengthening network defences to prevent future breaches. By the time systems were brought back online, the organisation had incurred notable operational and economic setbacks.
