Profile
Kolab Now operates as a privacy‑focused email service provider. Its core offering is secure electronic mail that emphasizes confidentiality and protection of user data. The service is designed for individuals and organisations that prioritise privacy in their communications. Being based in Switzerland, the provider benefits from the country’s strong tradition of data protection and neutrality. Kolab Now’s platform includes features such as end‑to‑end encryption and secure storage to safeguard messages. The company markets itself to users who seek alternatives to mainstream email providers that may harvest personal data.
In October 2021 Kolab Now was one of several privacy‑focused email providers hit by a coordinated DDoS extortion campaign. The attack, attributed to the threat actor calling itself “Cursed Patriarch,” peaked at approximately 256 Gbps of traffic. The actor demanded a ransom of 0.06 bitcoin, equivalent to about $4,000 at the time, threatening to continue the disruption unless payment was made. Kolab Now, along with other targeted providers, publicly refused to comply with the extortion demand. The incident highlighted the provider’s reliance on continuous network availability for its email service. Following the attack, Kolab Now resumed normal operations after the DDoS traffic subsided.
