It operates as a state‑owned enterprise under the Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Eléctricas Estatales (CDEEE). The company is responsible for delivering electricity to residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the eastern part of the country, including the Santo Domingo Este municipality and surrounding provinces. As one of the three main distribution firms in the Dominican Republic, it functions within a regulated framework overseen by the Superintendencia de Electricidad. Its core activity is the distribution of power purchased from generators, rather than generation itself. Following the incident, the company’s website was rendered inaccessible, yet EdeEste did not issue any public statements or breach notifications through official channels, and subsequent inquiries went unanswered. The lack of an official response left the validity of the alleged data leak unverified. This event highlighted the vulnerability of critical infrastructure operators in the Dominican Republic to ransomware threats. The incident remains a notable example of cyber risk facing regional utilities.
