Profile
The Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office is a governmental prosecutor’s office that represents the State of Georgia in criminal matters within the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit. Its primary function is to investigate and prosecute violations of state law, working closely with local law enforcement agencies, the superior court, and other justice‑system partners to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law. The office also provides legal guidance to victims and witnesses, participates in pretrial proceedings, and supports the administration of justice through court appearances and case management. As part of the judicial branch, it operates under the authority of the elected district attorney, who oversees the office’s staff and sets prosecutorial priorities for the circuit. The office’s activities are confined to the geographic area covered by the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit, which encompasses several counties in southeastern Georgia.
In June 2025 the office experienced a cyber attack that was detected and halted in real time by its 24/7 IT support provider, Georgia Technologies, preventing extensive data loss. Prior to the incident the office had been advised to implement a dedicated backup system but had delayed doing so because of cost concerns; backup efforts only commenced recently under the new district attorney, Robert Busbee, who also expanded the IT contract to include continuous monitoring. As a precautionary measure, all physical office locations were closed for five days to allow investigation, system recovery, and remediation, during which staff had limited email access and court proceedings faced potential disruption. The district attorney notified the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crimes Division, the Superior Court Chief Judge, the Court Administrator, the Clerk of Court, the Public Defender’s Office, and other partner agencies to maintain essential court operations while the response unfolded. Updates regarding the incident and recovery progress were communicated to the public through the office’s official Facebook page. The office remains a public sector entity with no publicly disclosed parent or subsidiary structure, and its headquarters is situated within the United States of America.
