Profile

The Slovak Chamber of Commerce operates as a representative body for businesses operating within Slovakia, providing a platform for advocacy, information exchange, and professional development among its members. It engages in dialogue with governmental authorities to shape economic policy, offers members access to market research, training programmes, and networking events designed to support commercial growth and competitiveness. The organisation also facilitates international business connections, helping Slovak firms explore export opportunities and foreign investors understand the local market environment. Through its services, the chamber aims to strengthen the overall business climate in the country by promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable economic development. Its activities are oriented toward both domestic enterprises seeking to expand within Slovakia and foreign entities looking to establish or deepen their presence in the Slovak market.

Headquartered in Slovakia, the Slovak Chamber of Commerce became widely known in December 2016 when its website suffered a security breach resulting from an SQL injection vulnerability that exposed the personal data of over four thousand users, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, and encrypted passwords. The attacker, using the alias Kapustkiy, disclosed the stolen information publicly after reporting the vulnerability received no response, intending to highlight security shortcomings and encourage remedial action. In response to the incident, the national Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) of Slovakia intervened, taking the affected systems offline to conduct maintenance and address the vulnerabilities. This episode underscored the chamber’s interaction with national cybersecurity authorities and highlighted the importance of robust digital security measures for organisations handling member data. While the chamber’s primary focus remains on business representation and support, the incident demonstrated its involvement in broader efforts to improve cyber resilience within the Slovak business community.
