Profile
The Egypt Information portal functions as an online platform that consolidates and disseminates government‑related information. It is headquartered in Egypt, serving as a domestic point of access for official data. The portal provides citizens, residents, and other stakeholders with updates on public services, regulations, and announcements. By centralising information, it aims to improve transparency and facilitate public interaction with governmental bodies. Its scope is limited to the Egyptian governmental context, as indicated by its name and location.
In October 2015, the portal was among several Egyptian government websites targeted by Anonymous‑affiliated hackers operating under the name Anonymous Rabaa. The attackers defaced the portal’s pages, displayed protest symbols, and demanded justice for victims of the 2013 Rabaa Square crackdown. They stated that the action was a retaliation for perceived human rights abuses and denied any affiliation with Islamist groups. Although the defacement caused temporary outages, the hackers asserted that no major systems were compromised beyond superficial disruptions. The incident highlighted the portal’s visibility as a symbol of state authority and prompted the group to vow continued cyber operations against the government.
