Fraudsters based in Nigeria gained access to the account of Charter Schools USA, the operator of Magnolia School of Excellence, and altered the banking information on file with the district. This manipulation caused $988,000 intended for the charter school operator to be diverted to an unauthorized account. The incident prompted an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement agencies. The incident was reported by news outlets and remains under investigation by federal and local authorities.
