Platforma Obywatelska

Platforma Obywatelska, also known as Civic Platform or PO, is a Polish political party that seeks to gain and exercise governmental power through democratic elections. Its primary activities include developing and promoting policy platforms, fielding candidates for local, national and European elections, and mobilising supporters through campaigning, public outreach and fundraising efforts such as the donation page that was targeted in the 2025 cyber incident. The party operates within Poland’s multi‑party system, participating in the Sejm and Senate, and has previously formed coalition governments that shaped domestic legislation and foreign policy. Civic Platform also engages in legislative work when its members hold office, contributing to debates on economic reform, social issues and Poland’s relationship with the European Union. As one of the two largest parties in post‑communist Poland, Civic Platform has enjoyed significant electoral support, regularly securing a substantial share of the vote and holding the premiership on multiple occasions. Its ideological positioning is generally described as centre‑liberal, advocating for market‑oriented economic policies, liberal social values and strong integration with European institutions, which distinguishes it from more conservative or populist rivals. The party’s organisational structure is that of a membership‑based association, with leadership elected by party congresses and no external parent company or subsidiary relationships reported in publicly available sources. Civic Platform is affiliated with the European People’s Party at the transnational level, linking its domestic agenda to broader European political networks.
