Profile narrative
Far Eastern University (FEU) is a private higher education institution located in the Philippines that provides undergraduate and graduate academic programs across a variety of disciplines. The university engages in teaching, scholarly research, and community outreach as its core functions. It serves students primarily from the Philippines while also welcoming international learners seeking Philippine‑based education. FEU organizes its academic offerings through several colleges and schools that cover fields such as business, engineering, arts and sciences, law, medicine, and health sciences. In addition to instruction, the university maintains facilities such as libraries, laboratories, and student support centers to support its educational mission.
Far Eastern University was founded in 1928 by Dr. Nicanor Reyes Sr. and operates as a non‑sectarian, private university. It comprises multiple colleges that offer degree programs ranging from bachelor’s to doctorate levels, allowing students to pursue studies in both technical and liberal arts fields. The institution has earned recognition for the quality of its programs, as evidenced by its graduates’ performance in national licensure examinations. In June 2020, FEU experienced a cybersecurity incident in which a potential data breach exposed approximately 1,000 student records, an event that occurred amid a broader wave of attacks on Philippine universities. This incident highlighted vulnerabilities in the educational sector’s information security and prompted concern among students and staff regarding personal data protection. Despite this challenge, FEU continues to emphasize its commitment to providing accessible and secure education.
The university is governed by the FEU Educational Foundation, a non‑stock, non‑profit corporation that oversees its operations and strategic direction. FEU operates several campuses under its brand, including the main campus in Sampaloc, Manila, as well as additional sites such as the FEU Institute of Technology and FEU Diliman. The foundation’s governance structure ensures that revenues are reinvested into the institution’s academic and infrastructural development.
