The Government of Poland is the sovereign authority responsible for governing the Republic of Poland. It provides a wide range of public services that include tax collection, vehicle registration, issuance of identity documents, and administration of social benefits through platforms such as the mObywatel app. The government also oversees the operation and maintenance of critical national infrastructure, encompassing water and sewage networks, energy supplies, and transportation systems. Legislative functions are carried out by the Parliament, which includes the Senate and the Sejm, and the government implements laws passed by these bodies. Additionally, it coordinates national security and defence policies, working with agencies such as the Internal Security Agency and cyber police units.

The government’s role in cybersecurity is highlighted by several incidents reported in recent years. In August 2025, authorities intercepted a cyber intrusion targeting the water and sewage network of a sizable city, shutting down affected systems to prevent a possible water shortage. In April 2025, a distributed denial‑of‑service attack disrupted the State Registers System, affecting access to the mObywatel app, tax filings, vehicle registrations and related benefit applications, though services were restored without data loss. Earlier, in October 2022, the Polish Senate’s website was taken offline by a cyberattack that coincided with a suspected incident against Slovakia’s parliamentary IT systems. The same month, a ransomware campaign using the Prestige malware struck organisations in Poland and Ukraine, causing rapid encryption and data loss in the transportation and logistics sectors. These events demonstrate the government’s responsibility for protecting critical infrastructure and coordinating responses with cyber‑defence agencies.

As the sovereign state, the Government of Poland has no parent organization and is not a subsidiary of any other entity. Its structure comprises various ministries, central offices and agencies that report to the Prime Minister and the President. This organizational setup enables it to exercise regulatory authority across sectors while maintaining nationwide reach.
