In early 2021 Taiwan Mobile experienced a security incident involving a self‑branded smartphone model supplied by a Chinese manufacturer, which was found to contain a pre‑installed trojan virus introduced during production. The malware compromised the affected devices, leading to reports of identity theft among subscribers and prompting regulatory authorities to order a recall of the handsets. Following the recall, the company issued direct notifications to the tens of thousands of customers who had purchased the devices over a multi‑year sales period, advising them of the breach and recommended remediation steps.
