Its services are used by domestic businesses as well as international firms that need to comply with Dutch corporate law and transparency requirements.

As the government‑designated registrar, the Chamber of Commerce holds a unique regulatory role that ensures the accuracy and public availability of business data across the country, giving it a nationwide reach that covers every sector of the Dutch economy. This position distinguishes it from private information providers, as its data is considered the authoritative source for legal and financial due diligence. The organisation operates as an independent public‑law body under the supervision of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, meaning it is not a subsidiary of any commercial entity but rather a self‑regulated institution tasked with fulfilling a public service mandate. It has implemented secure authentication methods such as eHerkenning to protect access to its digital services and sensitive data. In August 2023 the Chamber experienced a DDoS attack that temporarily restricted website accessibility, prompting a mitigation measure that limited access to Dutch IP addresses while domestic services remained operational. The Chamber also provides data to support governmental oversight and policy making.
