Profile narrative

Hillsborough County Public Schools, also known as Hillsborough County School District, is a public education entity headquartered in the United States of America. The organisation provides K‑12 instructional services to students residing within Hillsborough County. Its core mission is to deliver curriculum‑based learning experiences that prepare pupils for higher education, careers, and civic participation. As a school district, it oversees the operation of classrooms, supports teaching staff, and administers student assessment programs. The district also maintains auxiliary services such as transportation, food service, and facilities management to support the educational environment.

Because it maintains records containing personally identifiable information for students and staff, the district is considered a frequent target of cyber threat actors. The two publicly disclosed incidents in 2021 and 2022 illustrate how attacks have disrupted computer systems, voicemail, and network connectivity, prompting collaboration with external cybersecurity experts and law‑enforcement agencies including the FBI. These events highlight the district’s reliance on secure information technology to sustain both in‑person and virtual learning modalities. While the organisation does not disclose detailed technical defenses, its response procedures involve isolating affected systems, conducting forensic reviews, and engaging specialist consultants to investigate intrusion origins. Structurally, Hillsborough County Public Schools is a public school district, which constitutes a governmental entity. No subsidiary relationships are described in the available sources.
