Profile

The Fédération Française de Roller et Skateboard (FFRS) is the national governing body responsible for the organisation, promotion and regulation of roller sports and skateboarding throughout France. It establishes the technical rules and safety standards that govern practice in disciplines such as artistic roller skating, roller hockey, speed skating, inline freestyle and skateboarding. The federation issues licences to practitioners, registers clubs and oversees the organisation of regional, national and international competitions held under its auspices. Through development programmes and coaching certifications it supports the growth of participation at grassroots and elite levels. FFRS also represents French interests in the international federations World Skate and the International Roller Sports Federation.

The organisation’s headquarters are located in France, reflecting its national mandate and administrative base. According to the data disclosed in a recent security incident, the federation maintains a licence holder base of approximately 570,000 individuals, indicating a substantial reach across the country. This membership figure encompasses athletes, coaches, officials and recreational participants who are registered through its management systems. The size of the licence holder base situates FFRS among the larger sports federations operating within the French sporting landscape. Its national scope enables it to coordinate activities that span from local club events to international championships hosted in France.

FFRS distinguishes itself by its specialised focus on roller‑based disciplines and skateboarding, a niche that combines traditional roller sports with the evolving urban culture of skate practice. As the authorised regulator, it holds a delegated authority from the French Ministry of Sports to enforce compliance with national sporting legislation and anti‑doping regulations. The federation’s competencies include the operation of the Rolskanet management tool, which centralises licence administration, member data and event registration for its large constituency. This technical platform underpins its ability to deliver services such as licence issuance, competition ranking and communication with clubs. Its positioning within the French sports ecosystem allows it to act as both a service provider to members and a liaison with governmental and international bodies.

In January 2025 the Fédération Française de Roller et Skateboard experienced a cyberattack that targeted its Rolskanet management system, resulting in the unauthorized access to personal data of its licence holder base. The compromised information included names, email and postal addresses, dates of birth and telephone numbers, although passwords were not exposed according to the organisation’s statement. Following the breach, FFRS notified the French data protection authority (CNIL) and the national cybersecurity agency (ANSSI) and filed a criminal complaint with judicial authorities. The federation advised all affected individuals to remain vigilant against potential phishing attempts delivered via email, SMS or telephone and confirmed that immediate security measures had been enacted to halt the intrusion and strengthen system defences. The incident underscored the growing cyber‑risk landscape faced by sports organisations managing large member databases.
