Profile

Bologna Airport, also known as Aeroporto di Bologna and Guglielmo Marconi Airport, is the primary international airport serving the city of Bologna and the surrounding Emilia‑Romagna region in Italy. It provides passenger air transport services, handling scheduled and charter flights to destinations across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and beyond. In addition to passenger traffic, the airport manages cargo operations, offering freight handling and logistics facilities for airlines and logistics companies. The airport also supplies ancillary services such as retail outlets, food and beverage establishments, car parking, and ground handling support for airlines operating at the site.

The airport’s infrastructure consists of a single runway and a modern passenger terminal designed to accommodate both domestic and international flights. It operates under the oversight of Italy’s national civil aviation authority (ENAC) and adheres to European Union aviation safety and security regulations. Bologna Airport is recognised for its role as a gateway to the region’s cultural and economic centres, facilitating tourism, business travel, and trade flows that support the local economy. Its location approximately six kilometres northwest of Bologna’s city centre provides convenient access via road, rail, and public transport links.

Ownership of Bologna Airport is held by Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna S.p.A., a joint‑stock company whose shareholders include public entities such as the Emilia‑Romagna regional government, the Province of Bologna, the Municipality of Bologna, and other local authorities. This public‑private structure enables the airport to pursue infrastructure investments while remaining accountable to regional stakeholders. The airport’s operational continuity was demonstrated during the March 2023 cyber incident, when its public website experienced a disruptive attack that caused slowdowns and partial outages; internal systems, flight schedules and traveler services remained unaffected, and technical teams restored the website promptly.
