Profile

Département Eure is a local government authority responsible for administering the Eure department in the Normandy region of France. It provides a range of public services including social welfare, education support, road maintenance, land‑use planning, and cultural affairs. The department implements national policies at the territorial level, manages the departmental budget, and coordinates with communes and regional authorities. Its scope covers the entire geographic area of the Eure department, serving a population of several hundred thousand residents. The department also oversees public transportation, environmental protection, and economic development initiatives within its jurisdiction.

The Eure department spans approximately 6,000 square kilometres and is home to roughly 600,000 inhabitants. Governance is entrusted to an elected departmental council headed by a president, which decides on local taxation and allocates the departmental budget. Core competencies include the upkeep of departmental roads, the operation of middle schools, and the management of social housing programmes. As a territorial collectivity, Département Eure is part of the French administrative hierarchy, receiving financial support from the state and local revenues while operating under the oversight of the Normandy region and the national government.

On 1 January 2025, Département Eure was subjected to a distributed denial‑of‑service attack launched by the pro‑Russian hacking group NoName057(016). The assault rendered the department’s website temporarily inaccessible but did not result in any data breach. The attackers framed the operation as retaliation for France’s support of Ukraine. The incident was part of a wider wave of DDoS actions targeting various French regional and municipal bodies. French authorities, including prosecutors in Paris and the domestic intelligence service (DGSI), opened investigations into the attack. Several affected organisations, including Département Eure, announced their intention to file legal complaints against the perpetrators.
