Royal Yachting Association

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is the national governing body for sailing, windsurfing, powerboating and personal watercraft in the United Kingdom. In January 2015 the RYA forced a password reset for all online users after an attacker accessed a legacy database containing names, email addresses and salted‑hashed passwords, an incident that highlighted its responsibility for protecting personal data. While no financial information was taken and there was no evidence of misuse, the breach prompted the organisation to advise users to remain vigilant against phishing attempts that might impersonate its official communications.
