Profile

Meriton is an Australian property and hospitality organisation that conducts business under the aliases Meriton Suites, Meriton Apartments and the shortened name Meriton, with its headquarters located in Australia. The organisation’s primary activities encompass the planning, construction and sale of residential apartment buildings, as well as the management and operation of short‑stay serviced apartments marketed under the Meriton Suites brand. Meriton supplies homes to Australian purchasers seeking long‑term residence while simultaneously offering accommodation to both domestic and international guests who require temporary lodging. Although its residential development projects are concentrated in major metropolitan centres such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, the serviced‑apartment network extends to many of those same cities and to additional regional locations where demand exists. The company is noted for concentrating on high‑rise apartment construction, delivering large‑scale residential complexes that add substantial numbers of dwellings to the urban housing stock and employing standardised building techniques to achieve efficiency. Meriton remains a privately held enterprise, having been established by Harry Triguboff and continuing to be overseen by his family as a family‑owned business without public shareholders.

On 14 January 2023 Meriton announced that it had suffered a cybersecurity breach in which an unknown external actor extracted roughly 35.6 gigabytes of data from its internal systems. The information that was accessed included staff personal data such as tax file numbers, bank account details, employment histories, salary records, disciplinary files and health‑related information, together with guest particulars comprising contact details and health‑related disclosures such as incident reports filed during stays. After confirming the breach, Meriton promptly notified the individuals whose data may have been compromised and engaged specialist cybersecurity consultants to investigate the intrusion, contain any further exposure and recommend remedial actions to strengthen its security posture. The organisation advised that, despite the considerable volume of data that was removed, there was no indication at the time of notification that any of the stolen information had been used for fraudulent or malicious purposes. The episode triggered an internal review of Meriton’s information‑security policies and prompted the implementation of additional safeguards, including enhanced monitoring, stricter access controls and updated staff training programmes. Despite the disruption caused by the incident, Meriton continues to pursue its residential development agenda and to operate its portfolio of serviced‑apartments across Australia, maintaining its role as a significant contributor to the nation’s property and hospitality sectors.
