Bank Sepah, also known as بانك سپه, is a financial institution headquartered in Iran. As a bank, it provides core banking products and services such as deposit taking, lending, and payment processing to its customers. On June 17, 2025, Bank Sepah was targeted by a cyberattack claimed by the pro‑Israel hacker group Predatory Sparrow. The group stated the attack was retaliation for the bank’s alleged financing of Iran’s military and nuclear programs. According to their claim, the intrusion disrupted customer services, causing difficulties with account access, withdrawals, and card payments, and also affected gas stations that rely on the bank for transaction processing. Several branches were reportedly closed, and some government employees and security personnel experienced delays in receiving their salaries. The hackers asserted they had destroyed the bank’s infrastructure with assistance from “brave Iranians,” while Iranian officials and the bank have not issued public comments on the incident. The event was reported by The Record media outlet.
