Profile
La Poste, also known as the French Postal Service or Le Service Postal, is the national postal operator headquartered in France. It provides traditional mail collection, sorting and delivery services for letters and parcels across the country. In addition to physical mail, La Poste operates a parcel logistics network that handles domestic and international shipments. The organisation offers digital document services that allow users to send, receive and store official papers online. La Poste runs an online banking platform that provides retail banking products to individual and business customers. It maintains an email service under the LaPoste.net domain, which remained operational during website outages. The organisation also runs an online store where customers can purchase philatelic items, packaging supplies and other postal‑related goods. Package tracking is available through its website and mobile application, enabling users to monitor shipments in real time. These services are delivered to private individuals, businesses and public sector clients throughout France. La Poste’s core mission combines universal service obligations with commercial activities in the mail, logistics and financial sectors.
In December 2020 a data breach exposed personal information from over 150,000 user accounts, including hashed passwords, full names, phone numbers, physical addresses, order histories, email addresses and partial credit card details. The breach highlighted the volume of data La Poste holds on its customers and the potential secondary risks such as phishing and fraud. A May 2023 cyberattack claimed by the Team Bangladesh hacking group rendered the main website unavailable, although the LaPoste.net email service continued to function. A December 2025 distributed denial‑of‑service attack disrupted the website, mobile app, digital document services and online banking platform, impairing package tracking and digital payment processing during a peak delivery period while in‑person transactions and physical mail delivery remained operational. These incidents show that La Poste’s digital infrastructure can be targeted by politically motivated groups, yet its core mail delivery operations can persist despite online outages.
