On March 15, 2016, Naira4Dollar suffered a security breach that resulted in the theft of approximately $15,000 worth of cryptocurrency.
The stolen funds were held in a blockchain.info wallet controlled by the exchange.
The breach was discovered by the company’s chief executive officer when he attempted to access newly acquired Bitcoins.
Those Bitcoins had been intended for conversion to Perfect Money through the exchange’s service.
Upon checking the wallet, the CEO found it emptied of the digital assets.
The exchange immediately contacted the wallet provider in an effort to halt the unconfirmed transaction.
Despite those efforts, the transaction could not be reversed and the funds were transferred irreversibly to the attacker’s account.
The platform later confirmed that no recourse for recovery existed, leading to a complete loss of the stolen amount.
