The group maintains a social media presence, including an Instagram channel identified as @hmkv_de, which serves as a key communication platform. On January 31, 2022, this Instagram account experienced a complete security breach. Hackers gained full control, effectively taking over the channel and preventing the organization from accessing or locating the account under its original name. This incident rendered the official channel inoperable for its intended purpose.

The compromise involved the unauthorized distribution of messages containing links from the hacked account, creating a potential phishing risk for its audience. While the Instagram account was fully compromised, the organization's presence on other social media platforms remained unaffected and secure. In response, HMKV initiated a coordinated recovery effort. The organization collaborated with external cybersecurity experts to understand the breach's scope and technical vectors. A formal police report was filed, engaging law enforcement in the investigation. HMKV's team also repeatedly contacted Meta's customer support to report the takeover and request restoration of legitimate access.
