In February 2023, TCC experienced a ransomware attack claimed by the Medusa group that disrupted administrative systems and slowed customer‑facing functions such as new connections, billing, and support, although core voice and internet services remained operational. The attack followed Medusa’s typical Ransomware‑as‑a‑Service model, exploiting Remote Desktop Protocol vulnerabilities to gain access to administrative systems. This pattern mirrored recent ransomware disruptions affecting government infrastructure in other Pacific Island nations such as Vanuatu and Guadeloupe, where critical services experienced prolonged outages. Collaboration with external security firms helped mitigate the effects and restore normal administrative operations.
