Profile

Neopharm operates as a retail pharmacy chain in Russia, primarily offering prescription medications, over‑the‑counter drugs, and related health‑and‑wellness products to consumers. The chain also runs customer loyalty programmes and relies on point‑of‑sale systems to manage transactions and inventory. Its stores are situated in the major urban centres of Moscow and Saint Petersburg, serving the local populations in those cities. By providing both pharmaceutical goods and ancillary services, Neopharm functions as a typical community pharmacy operator within the Russian healthcare retail sector.

The company maintains a footprint of more than 110 individual pharmacies located across Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Together with its sister chain Stolichki, which operates over 1,000 stores in the same regions and surrounding areas, the combined network encompasses upwards of 1,100 pharmacy outlets spread across more than 80 cities nationwide. This extensive reach means that Neopharm contributes to a significant portion of the combined chain’s geographic coverage and customer base. The July 2025 cyberattack that disabled the digital infrastructure of both chains demonstrated the scale of their interconnected operations, affecting prescription access, loyalty programmes and point‑of‑sale functionality at all locations.

Historically, the ownership of Neopharm and Stolichki was concentrated almost entirely in the hands of Yevgeny Nifantiev, a businessman and former member of the State Duma. Following sanctions related to the conflict in Ukraine, Nifantiev transferred his stake in the pharmacy businesses to the Zdravinvest fund, altering the ultimate control structure. As a result, Neopharm is now indirectly linked to the Zdravinvest fund, which holds the equity interest previously held by Nifantiev. This shift in ownership reflects the broader impact of international sanctions on Russian private enterprises and highlights the chain’s positioning within the sector as a privately held entity subject to geopolitical pressures.
